Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) Round 6 Grant

Volunteers for Development Nepal has initiated Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) Grant Round 6 in financial support of Stop TB Partnership in Nepal. Some of the highlights and case studies are as follows -

VFDN organized orientation and interactions with members of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) including National Anti-TB Association (NATA), Members of Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), Key affected populations (KAP), representatives of district and regional health offices, Regional TB Leprosy Officer (RTLO), District TB and Leprosy Officer (DTLO), community health service providers, female community health volunteers (FCHV), Cured TB patients, etc. in five different regions of Nepal namely – Nepalgunj (mid-west region), Pokhara (western region), Hetauda and Kathmandu (central region) and Biratnagar (eastern region).

Highlights of the activities - In the five events, a total of 150 participants participated in the meeting and shared their views on TB and the challenges faced by NTP. The participants also suggested various ways to increase new case findings and hold them until the completion of treatment.

The participants also discussed on how to strengthen community system to increase access of underprivileged and deprived communities in services and treatment of TB as well as how to sustain the activities of TB at the community level.

In all five places, participants also suggested how to engage community and civil society in NTP. As one of the major outcomes of the meeting, five ad hoc committees of TB activists formed at the regional level as a part of forming a national level coalition of TB activists.

Methodologies adopted - Participants were invited from key stakeholders working in the field of TB in that particular districts and regions. VFDN made the sessions more interactive and participatory by using lecture, flash cards, power point presentation, flip charts, visual aids, group works and presentation. At the end of the session, facilitator summarized the session and recommendations were made. Later, the recommendations were submitted to concerned authorities, stakeholders and the funding agencies as well.
