Dustbin Support

Volunteers for Development Nepal (VFDN) carried out a few activities such as –
 Interaction with prison inmates to explore TB related situation within prisons;
 Education and information about TB to prison inmates; and
 Distribution of dustbin to manage sputum and wastages of TB patients and contacts in three prisons (Banke, Morang and Kathmandu)

With the surplus money of the TA Grant, VFDN locally ordered and procured 50 dustbins for the distribution to the prison inmates in 3 prisons – Nepalgunj, Biratnagar and Kathmandu for the management of sputum and wastages. In the above mentioned prisons, VFDN had conducted focus group discussions (FGD) as a part of community engagement for tuberculosis. During the FGD, VFDN has explored and identified the need of dustbin for the management of sputum and wastages as most of the inmates have to stayed in a crowded room making each other highly vulnerable of transmitting bacteria of tuberculosis through droplets and unmanaged sputum of TB suspected cases.
