About Nepal

Nepal represents a blend of ancient history, vibrant cultures and scenic grandeurs, located between China and India, Nepal's main geographical features include snow-capped peaks, lower mountains, mid-hills and fertile plains with tropical jungles. Nearly one-third of the total length of the Himalayas and eight of the world's 14 highest peaks lie in Nepal. The land-locked country covers an area of 147,181 square kilometers ranging from 60 meters to the highest point at 8,848 meters above the sea level.

Nepal has a population of 27.6 million and a high annual population growth rate of 2.1 percent. Over half of the population is estimated to live in the terai and most of the remainder in the middle hills. Socially and culturally the Nepalese are divided into more than 100 ethnic groups and communities, some of which are further differentiated by caste.
